ËÄÉ«AV of New Haven's Board of Governors announced that, this summer, they would launch a comprehensive national search to identify the next president of the university. This effort is being led by a search committee of Board members, students, faculty, alumni, and administration that will be supported by an executive search firm.
The search committee is being chaired by Michael Ambrose, a 1984 graduate of the university and vice chair of the board, who spent nearly 40 years at Sikorsky, rising to the position of vice president of engineering and technology.
The selected individual will follow Dr. Steven H. Kaplan, who served as president for 18 years, leading the University through the most prosperous period in its rich history, before being named the University's first chancellor last July. Dr. Kaplan will transition to the role of president emeritus effective July 1, 2023.
"This is an exciting time for the university as we look to advance the incredible momentum established by Dr. Kaplan during his distinguished nearly 20-year tenure," said Ambrose. "As a proud graduate of the University, I am excited to take a leadership role in this important initiative and to work with the Charger community to identify the next president of the university."
The search committee will begin to review applicants this fall. It is expected that a candidate would be selected in early 2024 and that the chosen individual would officially start as university president on July 1, 2024.
