About Eugene

Upon completing his degree at Pratt Institute, Gene spent the first ten years of his career as a designer and art director working with corporate design firms and advertising agencies in New York and Connecticut.

After ten years with these organizations, he made the decision to open his own firm, Gene Mayer Associates, Inc., in New Haven The office initially concentrated on annual reports, employee communications, and corporate identity. As the client base grew, many were expanding their operations on a global scale. The firm quickly identified and developed a niche market in multi-language design. As a result, the office began collaborating with clients, in designing, translating and producing multi-language corporate literature and marketing collateral for their employees and customers around the world. On some assignments, over twenty different languages were required.

Among a long list of clients are General Electric, Hartford Financial Services, Otis Elevator, and Tiffany and Company.

In 2012, along with a partner, Gene formed Cork Factory Films+ Communications. CFF+C is a boutique video production company working on corporate and industrial assignments, commercials, and short form documentary style projects. The company has also produced a TV series pitch reel for a show about two Egyptologists, and is currently in the early stages of a documentary on Modernism in graphic design.

Following the start of Cork Factory Films, Gene Mayer Associates transitioned to a solo design and consulting practice. Current design projects focus on work for non-profit organizations, and small privately held corporations.

Gene began as an adjunct instructor at the University of New Haven in 2018. He was offered the role of Practitioner in Residence in 2022. During this time, he has taught a range of different design courses at all levels. Including his role as instructor to the Senior Thesis course in Graphic and Digital Design for the past three years.

Throughout his career, Gene鈥檚 work has been recognized by the profession鈥檚 leading organizations and publications, including the AIGA, Type Directors Club, Connecticut Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, Print, GDUSA and Graphis.
