Mechanical Engineering Program Objectives And Student Outcomes
Mission
The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program strives to graduate professionally competent and responsible students who can meet industry's current and future needs in the general area of mechanical engineering.
The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) are as follows:
The knowledge and skills set provided by the BSME program will enable its graduates to attain the following Educational Objectiveswithin five years of graduation:
- Practice mechanical engineering in the private or public sector
- Engage in self-improvement through special training, independent inquiry or professional certification
- Pursue graduate studies in engineering, business, law, medicine or related fields, if they so choose.
The Student Outcomes (SOs) are as follows:
Student Outcomes are specific knowledge and/or skills acquired and applied by students of the mechanical engineering program by the time they graduate.
Achievement of the following Student Outcomes by graduating seniors is a necessary first step toward attainment of our Program Educational Objectives:
- Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering
- Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
- Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
- Function on multi-disciplinary teams
- Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- Understand professional and ethical responsibility
- Communicate effectively
- Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
- Recognize the need for and engage in life-long learning
- Know contemporary issues
- Use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
